2013 The North Face 100 Benguet ( Registration and Freebies info)

One of the most anticipated annual trail-runs  in the country and perhaps one of the most expensive? Considering  the location and accommodation that you also need to pay. But as they saying goes, the early bird catches the early worm. –In registration  (Early rate freebies plus huge discounts) see below.

TNF 100 -TheHikezillas

The north face 100 invites you to run further than you ever have in 2013! Promoting the genuine spirit of exploration since its kick start in 2008, The North Face 100 has become the most well-received and anticipated distance trail running series of seven Asia Pacific countries in fifth year: Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines, China, Australia, Singapore and Japan. Whether you are an aspiring trail running beginner or a seasoned racer looking for new challenges, unparalleled experience is offered in each competition of this region’s largest trail running series. Break all boundaries, and Never Stop Exploring.

Talking about excitement and anticipation. We made sure  to avail all the freebies that we can get since this time we’ll be participating the ultra category  50Km and yes it’s pricy, Php 3,500 plus the transportation to Baguio and hotel accommodation for at least to nights, make that 3 nights for us and food consumption as-well. Roughly around 7,500 of hard earned money. That can cover 7 road marathons.

But like any hobbyist and enthusiast like us; we do shell out money for these events. Guilty?

Just yesterday (Jan. 16) we registered for 50K at TNF SM Mega Mall. Well, having updated and connected to some TNF folks that we made friends before and of course trough their FB account, we ‘re always up-to-date on their promos like: Start of registration early registrants freebies and discounts.

Here are those:

Get 30% discount on registration when you use your TNF-Unionbank credit card or when you present a Total Fitness Magazine Jan/Feb issue (with TNF100 Belly Ad).

If you’re a TNF merchandise fan-boy, then I assume already have this. I’m a Fanboy too unfortunately I failed to acquire this card (long story). Anyway here’s how to apply for one: http://thehikezillas.blogspot.com/2011/10/north-face-credit-card-must-have.html

Another way which is the easiest way, (this was easy for us last year) . TotalFitness magazine Php. 120

2013-01-17-777

If some of you noticed that magazine and books store don’t have this issue of Total Fitness yet is because they have not delivered or just starting to dispatch it. The January-February issue and it’s already middle of January, crazy right?

Good thing we have friends that can make some work-around and help us to get a copy ahead. That’s one perks of being a blogger. Smile

Anyway you can grab a copy of this issue this weekend, try going QC area since the publisher/warehouse is just within  that are as-well Panay Avenue to be exact.

Here’s the break down:

Registration Fee:

100k and 50k: Php 3,500 – 30%off = 2,450 – 120 (Magazine cost) = Savings of  930 that’s still huge.
22k and 11k: Php 1,000 – 30%off = 700 - 120 (Magazine cost) = Savings of 180 not much but still a discount.

And if you’re an early bird… whom always gets the good stuff. (For 50km and 100km only)

FREE TNF100 Enduro Belt for the first 5 registrants per store (valued at approx. 1,500)

Columbia ECO Trail Run: Pinatubo

Columbia Eco Trail is a Trail Running Event organized by Columbia. This event is held in the different provinces of the Philippines. Each Trail is different kind of thrill and challenge. This is the first Eco Trail Event that will be held in Mt. Pinatubo.

image

Columbia has always been an advocate of local tourism and the environment. These activities do not only highlight the beauty of each province but also drives local tourism. Columbia organizes low-impact (on the environment), adrenalin pumping adventures that will be enjoyed by the adventurous and weekend warriors as well.

Thank goodness we made it, first 20 registrants at SM Mega Mall today, (4 slots left as of 11:30AM). I went there yesterday to register Myself and Mai right after I saw their posting wishing that we can be included in the first 20 for free shuttle ride. In my dismay you cannot register other person since they (Columbia) require participants to sign a waiver in the store only (you need to be physically present to register your-self). They are quite particular on it since accident might occur in trail runs they wanted to be sure that participants did understand and personally singed the waiver which I think is fair enough. Also for the slots not to be sold-out to a certain group only.

Back (No print) I wish they could have been more creative here.

2012-08-29-665

Upon registration, singlet and bib are already available. Also a 50% off on selected shoes on the day you register but you need to avail on that day/moment only. The 20% discount coupon is valid  up to November 13.

Timing chip is attached at the back of the Bib, powered by STRIDER the same timing chip used by Merrel Adventure Run last June. Good choice of timing chip.

2012-08-29-664

Free ride (Two way) are  only allotted for the first 20 registrants of any category per Store. (Could have been best if they will offer an option to pay for a ride. Since going at the site is pretty tough. Kindly consider that Columbia.

Merrell adventure run 2012; Adventure it is.

Finally we’re about to run this adventure race on the 2nd of June. We’ve just learned about it last year and planned to try it, but unfortunately our schedule did not permit us.

Well, we almost missed it again since we just registered on the last day of registration at Trinoma (the last registration point that still have slots for 5K and 10K only) and luckily enough we made it. We wanted to run the 21k but 10k is very much welcome, since this will be just a week away from another run that we joining “AmCham Run for a scholar”.  Obviously we’re not on the competitive level of running, not yet.

What made us more interested about this run is the trail. The Organizer promotes it to be a rugged run as it leads you through dirt roads, flowing streams, river crossing, rock scrambling, and uphill & downhill trails. (A mountaineer's playground.)

Trail running is expected to be rough anyway. But after learning about the test run conducted by the organizer from some invited bloggers: (Kain.Laboy.Takbo and RUNNING FREE), can’t help but compare it to our last trail run (TNF100 21km)*. This seems to be tougher, rougher and more fun as the pictures shows. But the TNF100 (50km and 100km) is another thing and it’s a killer.

TNF100,  Yours truly on my ever reliable Merrell Riot shoes.
